Large Prey Spieces

The main prey for the pack are white-tailed deer, they are found everywhere besides Millicent Mountain.
Males (called bucks or stags) can weight anywhere between 130 to 300 pounds, females (called does) usually weigh 90 to 200 pounds. The deer's coat is a reddish-brown in the spring and summer and turns to a grey-brown throughout the fall and winter. The deer can be recognized by the characteristic white underside to its tail, which it shows as a signal of alarm by raising the tail during escape.
The rut (mating season), begins in the fall, normally in late October or early November, making it easy to hunt the bucks since they are only thinking about reproducing. But since it is the mating season, bucks are much more aggressive and dangerous. It is easier to hunt them later during the rut since they will be weak from fighting and not eating.
With medium-sized prey such as deer or sheep, wolves kill by biting the throat, severing nerve tracks and the carotid artery, thus causing the animal to die within a few seconds to a minute. With a larger buck, killing by blood loss may be the best way to kill it.

Dall sheep take the spot of the main prey on the mountain.
Male Dall sheep (rams) have thick curling horns. The females (ewes) have shorter, more slender, slightly curved horns. Males live in bands which seldom associate with female groups except during the mating season in late November and early December. Lambs are born in May.
During the summer when food is abundant, the sheep eat a wide variety of plants. The winter diet is much more limited, and consists primarily of dry, frozen grass and sedge stems available when snow is blown off, lichen and moss. Many Dall sheep populations visit mineral licks during the spring, and often travel many miles to eat the soil around the licks.
Like deer, it easier to hunt the larger rams during the mating season, but it is still difficult since the pack hasn't adapted to hunting on the mountain.
A bite to the throat is the easiest way to kill a dall sheep.
